She was born in 1928 in Double Springs, AL to William Jabe and Ida Lee (Jackson) Wilson and was the youngest of eight children. Mrs. Steadman was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James S. Steadman. She lived in Birmingham for many years before moving to Springville, AL. where she gained a host of new friends. She came from a musical family and loved playing the piano. She sang with a small group of friends for churches and nursing homes. Gardening, reading, and traveling were favorite hobbies but her greatest joy came from being with her family which included two children, two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
She was a lovely woman who was known for her modesty yet could have a wicked sense of humor. A deeply religious person, she was a member of East Lake United Methodist Church for many years before moving to Springville and joining First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the alter guild at East Lake and known for her beautiful flower arrangements. She also took great pleasure in joining the UMW at Springville.
She will be ardently remembered by her family; children, Karen Steadman Barwick of Pell City and James D.(Rebecca) Steadman of Trussville; grandchildren, Lori Ogle and Claire (Eric) Roberts and four beautiful great grandchildren, Delaney, Sam Nolan, CeCe and Shepherd Roberts. She has a number of nieces and nephews with special mention of Jane G. Jones and Nancy Watson. Her childhood friends include Maxine White and Lavelle Wright who had continued to meet at least yearly after all these years. Her dear friend, Martha Worrell, was always there for her.
She had recently moved to The Cottages at St. Martin’s in the Pines where she was given great care by all who worked there.
Funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 8th at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. The visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
