

He was born in Birmingham on September 19th, 1947. He was preceded in death by his father James (Boots) Blake and mother Mary Ann McDonald Blake. Jim grew up in several states due to his father being in the Navy, including Puerto Rico where his sister Debbie was born in 1962. Jim graduated from Glenn Academy High School in Georgia in 1965. His family moved back to Birmingham and at this time he attended classes at UAB.
He also played guitar in a rock band called the Tynsions and played in nightclubs for several years. Jim joined the Navy in 1968 and married Linda Scott. After serving 4 years in the Navy, he and Linda moved back to Birmingham where he lived until his death. Jim was a computer tech at UAB and retired in 2009. He loved to ride his bike, walk miles every day and travel to Europe yearly. Over the 58 years of their marriage, they raised and loved 12 dogs.
He is survived by his wife Linda Blake, his sister Debbie Ellis (Don) nieces Mary Elaine Ellis, Joanna Ellis, brother-in-law Jerry Scott (Janet) and nephew Patrick Scott. He is also survived by his big Bernedoodle Wagner. He was blessed with wonderful grandparents, aunts, uncles and 11 first cousins.
Jim will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery on October 8th with viewing at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel at 10 am---with graveside service to follow at 11 am. Lynn Dimon officiating. Lunch will be served at RoJo for anyone who would like to attend.
