

John Wayne Brill of Birmingham, Alabama passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on September 18, 1945, John lived a life marked by integrity, service, and an insatiable curiosity about the world around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Brill and Constance Chamblee Brill, and his sisters, Freda Butler and Norma Banks. John’s legacy of strength and kindness lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched.
A proud graduate of Auburn University’s College of Engineering, John dedicated his career to innovation and problem-solving as an engineer for Southern Company. His professional accomplishments were matched by his distinguished military service. As a U.S. Army Captain with the 12th Aviation Group, John served honorably in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star for meritorious service—a testament to his courage and commitment.
John’s passions extended far beyond his work. He was an avid reader and a lifelong student of physics, astronomy, and space exploration. His love for military history and Bible study reflected both his intellectual depth and spiritual devotion. Those who knew him will remember his thoughtful conversations and his ability to inspire curiosity in others.
He is survived by his children, Robert Brill and Michael Brill; his brother, Charles Brill; his sister, Jacqueline Brill Walton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who will cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable man whose life was defined by service, knowledge, and love.
