John Thomas Rasberry, 72, went home to Heaven to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born on June 25, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Percy Thomas Rasberry; his mother, Neva Yvonne Kitchings Rasberry; and his brother, Robert Randall “Randy” Rasberry. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Beth Cone Rasberry; son, John T. “Jay” Rasberry, Jr.; son, Benjamin Cone Rasberry; and daughter, Bethany Rasberry Twilley (Jamie), as well as brother, William L. Rasberry (Carlene); sister, Edna Rasberry Williams (Mike), and many nieces and nephews.
Johnny and Mary met on a blind date March 6, 1970 and were engaged by August that same year. After John graduated from the University of Alabama in the spring of 1971, they were married on July 10 at Green Valley Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama. Later that fall, he began his studies in dentistry at the University of Alabama in Birmingham’s School of Dentistry, graduating with a D.M.D. degree in 1975. He then started his general dentistry practice in the East Lake area of Birmingham, Alabama. Beginning in 1989, John worked one day per week for Doctor Edward Bachofer for several years in addition to working at his own practice. In 2004, John relocated his practice to Trussville, Alabama. He retired in early 2011 after over 35 years in private practice.
He enjoyed trips to the beach, researching family ancestries, taking pictures everywhere he went, and spending time with his children. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In recent years, John was very much blessed by the Ministry of International Evangelist Rabbi Kirt Schneider, a Jewish believer in Jesus.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 10-11:00am in the chapel of Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, Al. 35211 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00am. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor Marion Eubank will be officiating. Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel directing.
