

John R. Stewart passed from this earth September 23, 2023. After graduation from Troy State University, John was a Special Education teacher at Fairhope Elementary School and served as a principal at Silverhill School for ten years. He left the field of education to enter the seafood industry and moved to Texas before coming back to Baldwin County to begin a new career in law enforcement with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. He began as an investigator in the Child Abuse Department and primarily investigated child sexual abuse. John was devoted to these children and fought tirelessly to protect them from their predators. He served as a member of the Major Crimes Unit and was involved in numerous high profile cases in the county. John was a skilled and diligent Investigator and was well respected by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center. The mission of the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center (BCCAC) is to provide resources and the community through a multidisciplinary team approach while empowering all toward child abuse prevention. BCCAC was always dear to John's heart. Any donation may be sent to: Baldwin County CAC, P.O. Box 884, Summerdale, Al. 36580.
John was preceded in death by his father ;Frank Stewart, mother; Marie Stewart and brother; Bobby Stewart. Survivors include his wife; Sue Melton Stewart, daughters; Allyson Stewart, Shannon Haywood (David), Grand-daughters; Lizzie and Ella Haywood, sister; Rose Brunson (Eddie), brothers; Freddie (Lily), Warren (Sharon), Ralph (Jennifer) and Steve (Marie).
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, September 29th, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church 22250 U.S. Hwy 90 Robertsdale, Alabama 36567 with Mitchell Sims officiating.
