

John "Johnny" Walding, 76, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Shelby, Alabama. Born on June 18, 1949, in Ensley, Alabama, John lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community.
A proud graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, John earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. His professional journey was one of innovation and leadership—he owned and operated Walding Pumps LLC and played a foundational role in the establishment of Townley. His work left a lasting impact on the engineering and industrial communities he served.
John was recognized early in life for his promise and character as a chosen member of Outstanding Young Men of America. He was also a past member of the Civitan Club, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and civic engagement.
Faith was central to John's life. He grew up attending Ensley Baptist Church and later served as a deacon at Wylam Presbyterian Church. In his later years, he was a devoted member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. His spiritual foundation guided his actions and inspired his generous heart.
John's love for the outdoors was evident in his favorite pastimes—hunting, camping , fishing—and he had a unique appreciation for kaleidoscopes. These hobbies brought him joy and reflected his curiosity and zest for life.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Amy Walding; son, Michael Walding; mother of son, Diane Walding; daughter Abbie Knopik Greenwood; grandbabies; Landon Bronx and Lucy Lou; son Blake Knopik and his spouse Hannah; and grandbaby Blakely. His sister, Christine Pridgen; nephew Mark Pridgen and his spouse Caroline; nephew Donald Wood and his spouse Tammy; nephew Dennis Wood and his spouse Ginger.
John was preceded in death by his mother Violet Ray Walding; father Douglas Dennis Walding; and brother Douglas Roy Walding.
Throughout his life, John gave generously to numerous charities and volunteered at The Foundry. He was known for putting others first—family, friends, or strangers alike—and carried himself with humility and kindness. Those who knew him will remember not only an accomplished engineer but also a man with a heart of gold who never hesitated to lend a helping hand.
