Johnny Coats passed away on September 6th, 2013 at the age of 70 in Birmingham, AL. He was surrounded by his family and friends after a long and brave battle with cancer. Johnny is survived by his wife Deborah Coats, his daughter Ashley Coats Serebrenik and her wife Analia Serebrenik, his son John Coats and his wife Casey Yarbrough Coats, his sister Mary Ann Cash and her husband Edmond Cash. He was predeceased by his parents John and Christine Coats. Johnny was a lifelong member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. He attended Troy State University and the University of Alabama. As a man of many talents, Johnny was a gifted musician and loved to play his guitar as well as racing cars and paintballing. He was also a proud "Popsicle" to granddaughters Madeline and Ellie Grace and a proud uncle to Andy and Sherri Cash and Anna Kate and John Andrew Cash. All who knew Johnny were touched by his kind heart and his wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by all those who loved and cherished him. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at Elmwood Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery
