

Joseph “Joe” Lee Brasher, 90, ran into the arms of the love of his life of 60 years , Kathryn L. Brasher and fell at the feet of Jesus on January 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kernal R. Brasher and Belle Brasher; siblings, Betty Bosworth, Alta Ulmer, and Kernal Brasher; and son in-love Steve Bailey. Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Sharon Bailey, Greg Brasher (Jan), and Michelle Hall (Yance); grandchildren, Brian Bailey (Donna), Eric Bailey (Susie), Christopher Bailey (Lisa), Wenda Jean Brasher, Ken Posey, Bobby Teal, Vallerie Paulin, Madison Hall, Reagan Hall (Elyssa); great grandchildren, Emily Bailey, Millie Bailey, Tessa Bailey, Ben Bailey, Aidan Bailey, Ella Kate Bailey, Amelia Bailey, Anna Claire Bailey, Cora Teal, Lizzie Landerfelt, and baby Hall aka “Little Love” is on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe worked for General Electric until retirement. He worked in the Lord’s Army for the majority of his life. He served as a minister of music for several churches in the area. He was a deacon and taught Sunday school. He was well loved by all he worshipped with. Joe was a true jack of all trades and could fix anything. Joe loved to plant flowers and tend his garden. He and his wife had a nursing home ministry until she passed away in 2015. He would visit the nursing homes frequently after she passed away. He loved to go to the senior center to play dominoes, bingo, and rubicube. Joe collected coins. A favorite pastime was completing word search books. Joe loved to fish at his home on the lake, where he also taught his kids how to swim, the old school way of just throwing them in. He loved his wife and family with all of his heart. His grandchildren have fond memories of Papa playing with them as they were growing up. He came to Elmwood Cemetery twice a week to visit his wife and make sure she had pretty flowers. Joe loved to dance and would visit the senior centers on the “dance” days. He sang Beulah Land at many of his friend’s funerals. He had a huge sweet tooth, but Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream was his favorite. Joe would research where relatives were buried and take trips to the cemeteries to visit their graves. To sum up his life, he was a wonderful and generous husband, father, and friend. He was a true servant of God who gave willingly of his time and money. Joe will be loved and greatly missed by his family.
A visitation for Joe will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 12 pm until 1pm at North Shelby Baptist Church. A celebration of life will follow at 1pm. He will be laid to rest beside his wife Kathryn at Elmwood Cemetery.
