Joyce Plummer Strickland Thomas went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 11, 2021. She was born November 19, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by David, her husband of 56 years and her parents, Sam and Kathleen Plummer. She attended West End High School and Samford University. Following the raising of her children, she was employed as a registered nurse at Baptist Medical Center Princeton for 27 years. She was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence H. Thomas; daughter, Sally Halliday (John) of Daphne, AL; two sons, Thomas Strickland (Diana) of Hoover, Al and Daniel Strickland (Lynda) of Douglasville, GA; stepchildren, Janice Walker (John) of Mountain Brook, AL, Lawrence Thomas of Idaho, Charles Thomas (Kelly) of Montana, Richard Thomas (Alicia) of Florida; sister, Patsy Lovingood of Huntsville, Al and nine grandchildren, Katie Winn (Steve), Claire Brenner (Brad), Hannen Manning (Josh), Tatum Strickland, Erin Strickland, Lauren Soukup (Dan), Austin Tubb (Krissy), Natalie Dottley (Zachary Bishop), Jonathan David Strickland and 16 great grandchildren.
The service will be held at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home on Monday, January18, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to “Make Jesus Known” at Shades Mountain Church, 2017 Columbiana Road, Birmingham, AL 35216.
