June Saliba Melton
June 11, 1928 – January 10, 2019
Evelyn June Saliba Melton, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019. June was born on June 11, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to Ralph Moses Saliba and Cecilia De Cole Saliba. She came South after the Great Depression of 1929. She lived in Muscle Shoals, Alabama before moving to Birmingham at age 9. June graduated from Norwood Grammar School and Phillips High. She was a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. She then moved to Hollywood, California where she worked for Buzza Cardoza Greeting Cards and Douglas Air Craft. She returned to Birmingham after 3 years and went to work for Luckie & Forney Advertising and also L.M. Berry. June is preceded in death by her father and mother; sister Nydia McDonald; brothers Raymond Saliba and Ralph M. Saliba, Jr. and her beloved husband of 53 years, Maurey E. Melton, Jr. She is survived by her sons, David Melton and Brett Melton (Kimberly); grandchildren, John Melton (Kristin) and Laura Melton and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. June was a long time member of Metropolitan Church of God. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service following at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to Metropolitan Church of God.
