Lisa Ann Lorino passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on January 29, 2026. Lisa was born in Homewood, Alabama, to Joseph and Marie Lorino. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her mother, Marie Saia Lorino; her sister, Tina Lorino Kunze; nieces Megan Oswalt (Lane) and Elizabeth Anderson (Carter); great-niece and great-nephews Brooks Oswalt, Millie Oswalt, and Hudson Anderson; aunt, Rita Saia; and cousins Sam Savage (Erin), Joanne Truitt (Tony), Zach Truitt, and Vince Truitt.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Lorino; her brother-in-law, Chris Kunze; grandparents Nick and Josephine Saia and Ben and Frances Lorino; and aunts and uncles, Sam and Rosemary Savage, Angelo and Marie Bianchi, Santo and Lena Vizzinia, Josephine D’Aquila, and Pete Lorino.
From the beginning of her life, Lisa was a precious gift from God. Born with multiple disabilities, her family gathered around her in love and support. Throughout her years, Lisa attended many programs and schools in the Birmingham and Over the Mountain communities, touching countless lives along the way. With her angelic face and sweet, gentle spirit, Lisa reflected God’s love to everyone she met. She was beautiful in every way, and all who encountered her were blessed simply by knowing her.
Her parents, Joe and Marie, embraced their calling as Lisa’s parents with deep love, sacrifice, and faith. They ensured she received the very best care—doctors, medical treatments, therapies, programs, and schools. Their advocacy was rooted in deep love and devotion to Lisa. Marie even traveled to Montgomery with other parents to witness the governor sign a bill into law allowing children with special needs to attend public schools.
In recent years, Lisa lived in a group home sponsored by The ARC of Alabama, where she was surrounded by compassionate caregivers who lovingly cared for her and honored the sacredness of her life.
On January 8, Lisa was admitted to Grandview Medical Center with an infection. Though her sweet body grew tired, she fought bravely. Marie never left her side. During her stay, Lisa left a lasting impression on her doctors and nurses. She was so deeply loved that nurses from every floor she stayed on visited her daily, drawn to the peace and grace she radiated.
As Catholics, we believe that life does not end but is transformed. We take comfort in the hope that Lisa has been welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus—free from pain, whole and healed, and at peace. We trust in God’s promise of eternal life and reunion, even as our hearts grieve her absence here on earth.
Lisa’s family wishes to thank the many amazing people who cared for her and taught her over the years, especially the staff at The ARC of Alabama, Hoover House; the nursing staff at Grandview Medical Center (12th Floor, ICU, and 9th Floor); and the team from Alabama Hospice Care.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Lisa’s life on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, AL 35226. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery will follow.
We humbly ask that you consider contributing to a memorial fund in honor of Lisa. Gifts will be used to celebrate Lisa’s beautiful life, as well as to make donations in her memory to The ARC of Alabama, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Bell Center for Early Intervention Programs. https://gofund.me/c5e9b61e4
