Lu Jean Tackaberry, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 30, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Tackaberry; parents, Samuel Clyde and Jo Aileen Landman; brothers, Sam Landman, John Landman, and George Landman. She is survived by her sister, Sara Jo Clay (Bud); brother, Fred Bohannon (Debbie); sisters-in-law, Mary Sue Landman, Marianne Landman, and Carol Landman; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Lu had a successful career at the Social Security Administration, where she began as a Secretary and retired as a Program Analyst. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and Dixie Misses Barber Shop Quartets with dear friends. Lu enjoyed being a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church family. She was an avid reader and philanthropist. Her love of reading and compassion led to her reading to the blind on a local Birmingham radio station.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Lu's memory to either Children's Hospital of Alabama or Wounded Warriors.
A visitation will be on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 1 pm at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, with a celebration of life to follow at 2 pm. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
