Lucretia G. Anderton, age 84, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Friday June 19, 2020. Lucretia was born June 13, 1936 to Gaeton Eugene and Rose Lucretia Giattina. She is preceded death by her parents, and her brother, Gaeton Eugene (Tom) Giattina, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Anderton Kraus, Dana Anderton Guthrie (Marc); and Christine Anderton Griffiths (Chester); grandchildren, John Austin Guthrie (Haley), Michele Lee Guthrie, Morgan Elizabeth Kraus, Lucius Christopher Guthrie (Blair), Mitchell James Kraus, Chester Henry Griffiths, Charley Dana Griffiths; cousin Mary Jo Nicastro; and a loving extended family.
Lucretia graduated from Ensley High School in Birmingham, AL and Birmingham Southern College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. She worked as a P.E. teacher and later as a secretary. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Lucretia was a lifelong parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She always enjoyed her time with family and friends. She loved music, dance, and the arts. Her favorite game was playing Bingo! She was also very proud of her Italian-Catholic heritage.
The family would like to thank the staff and administrators at Greenbriar At the Altamont and the nurses, PAs and Physicians at UAB Hospital for the love and amazing care during this time.
A visitation for Lucretia will be held Monday, July 6, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 CT at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211.
The funeral service will occur Monday, July 6, 2020 at 2:00 CT at 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211.
A burial will occur at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.
