Mable D Long

Mable Dickey Long, “Meme”, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017 surrounded by many loved ones. She was born on April 3, 1926 in Grady, Alabama in Crenshaw County to Sallie Owens Dickey and John Kirby Dickey. Mable graduated from Highland Home High School in 1944. Later, that year she married the love of her life, Alton Long, from Montgomery, Alabama. They had two daughters, Linda Long Stewart (Charlie) and Susan Long Womack (Greg). Mable was an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb and loved working with her flowers in her yard. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family including her five grandchildren: Charlie Stewart (Malia), Jay Stewart (Brooke), Susan Murdock (Gil), Anne Sanford (Will), and Abby Nevins (Holder) and eight great-grandchildren. Mable’s love and devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident in every facet of her life. She was a faithful member of Palisades Church of Christ where she was actively involved in the Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Class. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Mable was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers (Herman, Osban, Wilson and Bibb) and five sisters (Helen, Flora, Virginia, Sarah, and Vivian Grace). The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the sitters who loved and cared for her so well; Theresa Miles, Mona Lisa Coleman, Tomeka Mitchell, Sherrell Brown, Pat Brewster, Sylvia Evans and Melbra Gilmore. Also, a special word of thanks is given to the nurses and staff of Kindred Hospice. Visitation with the family will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM and family burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama, P.O. Box 2273, Birmingham, Alabama 35201 or Rainbow Omega, 100 Hope Drive, Eastaboga, Alabama 36260 or the charity of your choice.
