Margaret Rita Mangieri LaRose, at the blessed young age of 103, passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, November 8, 2021 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Birmingham, AL. Interment will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Huntsville AL beginning at 1:00 PM under the direction of Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. Margaret was born January 17, 1918, in Bronx, New York to Madeline and Louis Mangieri and was the youngest of 5 girls. Having lived through the Great Depression established in her a lifelong ethic of hard work and an appreciation for what she earned and saved as was apparent in both the neatness of her home and her frugalness. At the age of 24 she married Walter, the love of her life, on September 13, 1942. During their 56 happy years together, they raised their two wonderful children, one daughter Rosemary and one son Walter Louis, in New Jersey. Upon their retirement, they moved to Huntsville AL and later cherished spending time at their retirement haven in Naples FL. Margaret was a devout member of Holy Spirit Church in Huntsville Alabama where she was a faithful adorer of Eucharistic Adoration for many years. Following her move to Birmingham, she became affiliated with St. Barnabas Catholic Church and was blessed with weekly visits by Father Vu and Deacon David Renda. She was also appreciative of and looked forward to the generous outreach from members of St. Theresa's Church as well as EWTN. Margaret’s life personified her beloved Blessed Mary in her love and devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ, her church, her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter David LaRose (February 1999), her daughter Rosemary LaRose Steinmetz (September 2020), and earlier years, her parents and four sisters. She is survived by her son Walter Louis LaRose, wife Brenda; 5 grandchildren, Walter LaRose, Jr., wife Liz; Wendy LaRose Crow, husband William; Braden LaRose, wife Natalie; Linda Steinmetz Sahawneh, husband John; John Steinmetz; and 9 great-grandchildren, Angela, John, Annelise, Claire, Audrey, Lillian, Bradley, Austin, and Ryder. Family expresses endless thanks to her faithful Huntsville friends Marjorie and Mary Ann who frequented her with calls and trips to visit her in Birmingham. Words are inadequate thanks for how accommodating and wonderful her Kirkwood by the River friends and professionals have been to “Momma”, as she was known to everyone. They had become as dear as family to her, especially Catherine, her faithful encourager who had bonded with her in friendship and support. The one-on-one care and special attention given her by each of you was obviously from the heart. God bless you all. In addition, appreciation is given to Compassus Hospice for their compassion and kindness. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church or charity of your choice.
