

OWENS, MARGARET CHAMBLEE age 95 of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on July 6, 2011. She shared a long and loving life with family and friends. Most who knew Margaret knew her for her warm and genuinely friendly personality and unselfishness toward her friends and family. All who met her would soon realize she had made them her friend. She was a loving daughter, devoted wife, loving and generous mother. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. Margaret graduated from Central Park Elementary and Ensley High School. She also attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Margaret had careers in both retail sales and as a decorator, including 18 years with Sears and 17 years with Blackburn Interiors. She was a great ballroom dancer and a long time member the of The Dragons dance club. Her charity work which she enjoyed so much included Jimmy Hale Mission, and women's shelters. Margaret took great pride in her Christian life as a member and elder of Central Park Presbyterian Church and Chapel in the Pines, Presbyterian Church as a faithful member until her death. Margaret Owens was preceded in death by her father, John J. Chamblee, her mother, Mary Howells Chamblee, her husband Ernest LeRoye Owens, her brother, Col. John J. Chamblee, and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Bullock wife of Jess B. Bullock Sr. She is survived by daughter Beverly Hall, son, John (Kathy) Owens and daughter Sandra (Terry) Douglas. Grandchildren include: Cassie Hall, Douglas Hall, Rod Douglas, Taylor Douglas, and John Michael Owens. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Clint Hall and Ashley Hall. Her nieces and nephews include: Jess Bullock, Robert Bullock, Jennifer (Scott) Simmonson, John (Gayle) Chamblee, Ken (Sandra) Larson, Alan (Barbara) Larson, Janet (Vic) Troncelli, David Owens and the late Richard Bullock. Services will be Saturday July 9, 2011 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel at 1:00pm, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
