Margaret P. Shepherd

SHEPHERD, MARGARET JONES PALMER passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. She was predeceased by her first husband James T. Palmer, Jr., and her second husband Dr. Leonard A. Shepherd. She was also predeceased by her parents, Daniel B. and Adria Jones, and by her brother-in-law Howard Q. Smith. Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her three daughters Patricia Palmer Lewis (James Sr.) of Smithfield, North Carolina, Adria Palmer Ellis (Joe III) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Virginia Palmer Williams (C. Nash) of Savannah, Georgia. Her brother, Daniel A. Jones (Deborah) and sister Billie Kathryn Smith also survive Mrs. Shepherd. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: James L. Lewis, Jr., (Vicki) , Jarrod L. Lewis (Catherine), Rebekah E. Probst (Eric), Rachel E. Dickinson (Mitch), Spencer N. Williams. Mrs. Shepherd was grandmother to ten great grandchildren. In reflection of her faith and commitment to her Lord Jesus Christ, Mrs. Shepherd led an exemplary life of Christian service, teaching Bible studies for women and children over the course of her life. Her God given gifts of kindness and graciousness touched and enriched all who knew her. She had recently attended Community Presbyterian Church, Moody, AL. Mrs. Shepherd and her first husband were founders and owners of National Tire and Salvage Company, Inc. where she worked until her retirement. The service will be held at one o'clock pm on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave, Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends at the chapel between twelve noon and one o'clock. The family encourages remembrances in honor of Mrs. Shepherd be given to Community Presbyterian Church (825 Oak Blvd, Moody, AL 35004) in lieu of flowers.
