

Margaret Juanita Thomas passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, November 22, 2025 surrounded by all the things she loved, her son David, her two cats Kitty and Gracie, her books and her flowers. She was 94.
She was born Margaret McGaughy on June 15, 1931 to Hazel and Edgar McGaughy in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Elton Elementary, Phillips High School and Montevallo College. She married Cecil Thomas and together they had one son David. She retired from the UAB Kirkland Clinic in Birmingham.
Margaret loved to travel and visited all fifty States but one, all of the Canadian Provences including the Yukon Territory, she loved London, Paris, Milan and Rome. She enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy, studying history and visiting historical sites. She treasured her array of heirloom family quilts. She was an avid reader and had an extensive book collection. She love flowers and plants and spending time at her second home in the Smoky Mountains.
Margaret was active in genealogy social clubs and was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, United States Daughters of the War of 1812, United Daughters of the Confederacy and First Families of Tennessee.
Preceded in death by her loving parents, Hazel and Edgar McGaughy, her grandmother (Little Mama) Mary Eva Tyler-Mills, her father-in-law/mother-in-law Harris and Bessie Thomas, her husband, Cecil Thomas, sister-in-law/brother-in-law Sally and Donald Thomas, brother-in-law Jimmy T. Beasley and her sister Carolyn McGaughy Beasley. She is survived by her son David, two nieces Alison Beasley Siegle (Scott) and Melanie Thomas Dixon (Randy) and her two cats Kitty Thomas and Gracie Nesbit Thomas.
Visitation and funeral will Monday December 1, 2025 at historic Rose Hill Baptist Church located at 1670 Alton Road, Irondale, AL 35210 followed by graveside burial service at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, AL.
Visitation begins 11:00 am and Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon.
