Margaret Avery Thomas of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away on January 17 at the age of 88. Margaret lived a true Christian life as a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and caring friend. Margaret loved her family and friends and maintained those relationships with each of them. She also loved the Auburn Tigers.
Originally from Alexander City, AL she migrated to Birmingham, Al where she spent her life. She attended Auburn University and the University of Montevallo. She was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband James O (Buddy) Thomas and her parents John Walker and Mattie Neal Avery. She is survived by her daughters Angela (Danny) Traweek and Amy (Joey) Dobbs, grandson Thomas Traweek, granddaughter Danielle (Woody) Moss and great grandchildren Cannon and Willow-Grace Moss.
Graveside service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Elmwood Cemetery, officiated by Dr. Ed Wallen. Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors beginning 12:30 PM at Ridout’s Elmwood on 800 Dennison Avenue SW., Birmingham, AL 35211.
