Margie "Ann" Minton Boatwright was born the third of 11 children on July 24, 1936 in Piedmont, Alabama. She died on Monday, February 26, 2018 in Birmingham, Alabama, having lived at Kirkwood by the River for the past year.
Ann was Mack's wife for 58 years; Vicki, Lori, and Patti's mom; Lesli, Leah, Lauri, Chloe, Ashton, Anna, and Luke's Gran; and Baylee, Brody, and Meredith's Great-Gran. In other words, she is survived by her husband, Mack Boatwright, her daughters, Vicki Thomas of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Lori Phillips (Randy) of Deltona, Florida, and Patti Black (Doug) of Birmingham, Alabama, her grandchildren, Lesli Hutson (Cory) of Gainesville, Georgia, Leah Umbehant (William) of Hoschton, Georgia, Lauri Springer of Daytona Beach, Florida, Chloe and Ashton Phillips of Deltona, Florida, and Anna and Luke Black of Birmingham, Alabama and her great-grandchildren, Baylee and Brody Hutson of Gainesville, Georgia, and Meredith Umbehant of Hoschton, Georgia.
Ann had a quick wit and was known for telling people that her arthritis related aches and pains were a result of "playing for The Bear." She made homemade biscuits for more breakfasts than her family can count, but was most well known for making "Crescent Ridge" rolls and four-layer delight. She especially loved eating buffalo wings, listening to the Gaithers on Saturday night, and showing off pictures of her grands.
Ann sewed many dresses, knitted a lot of afghans, and planted numerous roses at her home in Tuscaloosa where she lived for more than 40 years. Ann was a long-time member of Alberta Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.
Memorial service will be held Friday, March 2 at 2:00 pm at Ridout's Trussville Chapel in Trussville, Alabama. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Burial will take place at Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama. The family would like to thank the staff at Kirkwood by the River for their loving care and attention.
