

Marilyn Perkins was born in Sheffield, Alabama, January 17, 1927 to parents Orrie Walker Irwin and Pearl Clements Irwin. She transitioned to glory on February 25, 2016 at her home in Vestavia, Alabama. The last two years of her life, her daughter, Patricia Zinck, lovingly cared for her mom at home. Mrs. Perkins grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Woodlawn High School. In 1945, she married William Taylor (Cy) Perkins. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and they lived in Birmingham and Vestavia throughout their marriage. Mr. Perkins proceeded her to heaven in 1984. Mrs. Perkins was an avid golf and tennis player and was Club Champion in both sports at Chace Lake Country Club. She also loved being with friends as part of her Garden Club, Sorority and Bridge Club. A member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, she was always ready to help others whenever possible. She was greatly loved by her family, and was especially adored by her grandchildren who knew her as Memi. She is survived by her son, William Taylor Perkins, Jr., (Susie), daughter, Patricia Perkins Zinck, three grandchildren; Stephen William Haas, Jr., Jamie Elliot Barnhart, and Taylor Perkins Smith, five great-grandchildren, three sisters; Francis Barrett Funari, Anne Byrne, and Joy Land, and a number of nieces and nephews who were very special to her. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Orrie Walker Irwin, Jr. The family is planning to gather for a time of remembering and celebrating her life.
