Marlene Ruth (Gilmore) Gordon

Born on October 14, 1934, in Bessemer, Alabama. Marlene graduated from Hueytown High School in 1953, where she was a member of the Golden Gopher band and a majorette. She made her home in Midfield, Alabama, for 66 years, becoming a familiar and beloved member of the community. During that time, she served as a substitute teacher at Midfield High School, where she enjoyed encouraging and investing in the lives of countless students.

Marlene embraced life's simple pleasures. She loved camping beneath the stars, spending peaceful days at the lake, and could always be found cheering on her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide every football season. She also found joy in working jigsaw puzzles, appreciating the patience and satisfaction that came from bringing each piece together.

Above all else, Marlene's greatest joy was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all of her heart and took immense pride in each of their accomplishments. Her home was filled with love, encouragement, laughter, and unwavering support. She celebrated every milestone, offered wisdom through every season of life, and created memories that her family will treasure forever. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and steadfast devotion will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby L. Gordon.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Rodney Freeman (Robbie) and Renea Cannon (Jerry); her grandchildren, Brian Thompson (Will), Natalie Johnson (Logan), and Madison Wade (Luke); her treasured great-grandchildren, Leighton, Nate, Charlie, June, and Kendall; her sisters, Gail Coupland and Jeanette Bailey; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends who will deeply miss her.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Johns-Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. A Celebration of Marlene's Life will begin at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love Marlene shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a beautiful example of kindness, devotion, and unconditional love—a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
