

Martin E. Fox passed away June 10, 2026 peacefully at home with his daughter by his side. He was born June 8, 1922 to Julia Pauline Schefer and Johns Martin Fox of Ensley. He later moved to Fairfield and lastly lived in Hoover. He graduated from Ensley High School in 1941. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corp in Italy where he serviced airplane engines. After the war he came back to study at Auburn and graduated with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1948. He worked for numerous years in the Birmingham area in engineering, pricing plumbing for buildings, and drawing plumbing systems on architectural plans. He was employed by Banks, Elliot, and Ramsey, and Shook and Fletcher. Martin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church which family helped form. He served for many years as the President of the congregation. He was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie course, and he continued to practice public speaking as a member of the Birmingham Speakers Club. He enjoyed Square Dancing and was a member of the Allemande Square Dancing Club. He will be missed by all that were lucky enough to have known him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Fox; brother, Fred Fox; sister, Elizabeth Fox; brother, George Fox; and sister, Louise Fox. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Nigg.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 10 am until 11 am at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel; a celebration of Martin's life will follow at 11 am. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Jean at Elmwood Cemetery.
