Mary E Beckner

Beckner, Mary Elaine (Mayo), age 91, of Irondale passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Mrs. Beckner was born in Cardiff, AL. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and a member of the Irondale United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She was co-founder and owner of Acme Sign Company, Inc., a family owned business that operated for more than 50 years, with her active participation and co-direction lasting well into her 80's. She participated actively in church and local civic projects. She and her husband, Wiley Clifton Beckner, Sr., celebrated more than 61 years of marriage together. He and their son, Wiley Clifton Beckner, Jr, and her parents, Nannie Lou (Cox) Mayo and Sterlon Blanchard Mayo preceded her in death. Survivors include son, Mark L. Beckner (Karen) of Leeds, AL, and daughter, Dr. Marie E. Beckner (Dr. Douglas Moul) of Willoughby Hills, OH; grandchildren, Julie M. Beckner (Derek Smith) of Sacramento, CA, Jennifer M. Beckner-Jones of Jacksonville, FL, T. Christopher Beckner of St. Augustine, FL; great grandchildren, Ashley M. Smith and Corbin (CJ) Clifton Jones of Jacksonville, FL; sister, M. Jane (Mayo) Williams of Atlanta, and sister-in-law, Arlean Buck of Jonesville, MI. Funeral services will be held at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL, 35235, on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service in Forest Hill Cemetery.
