Mary Alyce Bonner passed from this world into the presence of her Savior on January 25, 2025, where she was reunited with her beloved husband, Ray and her parents. She was the only child of Albert and Mary L. Meyer. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and soon after traveled to Hawaii to marry the love of her life, Ray S. Bonner, Sr., who was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base. After Ray’s service was up, they returned to Clay, Alabama, and she began her career with Social Security in the Office of Hearings and Appeals, while raising her family. Upon her retirement from Social Security, she and Ray enjoyed life, travelling and doting on their grandchildren. Soon afterward, Ray was diagnosed with cancer, and Mary Alyce became his loving caregiver until he passed in 2001. To fill the void in her life, she began her second career as a Volunteer “Pink Lady” at Medical Center East, where she worked in the gift shop and the same day surgery department. She thrived on serving others, enjoying the interactions with the staff and visitors to the hospital. She served many years until the drive from Springville became too much for her, so began her second retirement. She enjoyed her books and feeding and watching the birds in her backyard. The last three years of her life were a difficult trial for her, with several serious health issues, and that dreaded disease called dementia. Through it all, she never lost her faith, never became bitter, telling everyone who would listen that she knew where she was going and could not wait to go there. She fought the good fight and has earned her reward.
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away”
Mary Alyce is survived by her two daughters, Linda Buckner and Stephanie Stone, two sons and daughters in law, Lee and Janet Bonner and Ray Jr and Martha Bonner. Grandchildren: O’Brien Prevatte, Loree (Derick) Beeson, Jamie Manley, Susannah Manley, Vince (Liz) Bonner, Brandon (Emily) Bonner, Eric (Jenny) Bonner, Kyndle (Brett) Minter and Austin (Jessie) Bonner, and 23 great grandchildren.
The family would like to say thank you to the entire staff of Enhabit Hospice for their complete and compassionate care . Special thanks to Megan, Cheyenne and to Chaplain Neal.
