Mary Jim Brannan, age 75, of Center Point, passed away on Monday, July 16. She is known by many names: Mary Jim, “Poncho Vanilla,” MJ, Jim, Mom, Nana, Nana Brannan, Nana Boo Boo, Best Friend, Mother-In-Love, Wife, Companion, Mentor, Daughter, and a Most Faithful Servant of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents James W. Stewart and Mary Norma Craven Stewart and brother, James Norman Stewart. She was born on July 30, 1942. She graduated from Ensley High School in 1960. She was associated with Parkview Baptist Church, First Baptist Center Point, and was a current member of CrossPoint Church in Argo. She enjoyed teaching in Sunday School classes in all three churches. Her passion in life was serving the Lord by counseling people who were recently diagnosed with cancer or anyone battling addiction, which henceforth led she and her brother to create a class on addiction recovery, known as the Overcomers class. She forever enjoyed being hospitable by entertaining people in her home and opening her home for those in need. She spent most of her working career with Ellard Contracting as an administrative assistant and was a current employee at FIS Global as a data entry clerk.
She was a precious and devoted wife to her husband of 55 years. She was a dedicated mother of two boys and joyfully served with the PTA at Erwin Elementary and by being a Grey Lady. She adored her grandchildren and was intentional about making sure each family member felt special. She loved and treated her daughter-in-law as her own. She enjoyed cooking meals for her family on Sundays, as well as birthdays and other special occasions.
She is survived by her husband Wm Hollis Brannan, son Barry Brannan and Christy Ennis, granddaughters Kassie and Krista, son Shane Brannan and wife Jenny, grandsons Tate and Clay, and sister-in-law, Regina Stewart, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with a loving Sunday School class and a world of friends, which was anyone who knew her. She will be missed for many reasons, namely, for her gentle guidance, unconditional love, “just because” cards, her elegance, sassiness, and selflessness.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to CrossPoint Church’s missions stream. (8000 Liles Lane, Trussville, AL, 35173)
Services will be held at Cross Point Church on Friday, July 20. Visitation will be from 10:30am to noon, with services following, internment at Elmwood.
