Mary Compton Lathan

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, Mary Lee Compton Lathan transitioned from her caterpillar life form (natural) into her butterfly life form (spiritual). Mary was born August 9, 1941 in Westfield, AL to Mose Compton and Larcena Gamble. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmie Davis Compton, Sr; sister, Gwendolyn Learner Magwood; daughter, Melody Clemon Crosby; and son, Nathaniel Frederick Clemon.

She leaves to cherish her memories; daughter, Tacqua DeAnne Clemon of St Cloud, MN and son, Terry Leon Clemon of Birmingham, AL. Eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, May 26, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211.
