

Mary Jo Pizzitola died peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 92 on Saturday, August 2, 2025. She was born in Birmingham, AL on June 3, 1933. She graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1951 where she was Class Vice President and a cheerleader. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Annie Pillitteri; brother, Sam Pillitteri; sister, Ann Coronal; and son, Alan Pizzitola. On October 16, 1952 she married the love of her life, Vincent Joseph Pizzitola and they spent over 72 wonderful years together. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Vincent; four children Joey (Mary Scott) Pizzitola, Teresa (Gerry) Inman, Anna (Charlie) Crump, Valerie (Shawn) Hunton, and daughter in law, Suzanne Pizzitola. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Jo was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved cooking and is known for her legendary lasagna and pound cakes and was an avid Alabama sports fan. Mary Jo was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Her service will be held there on Thursday, August 7, 2025 with visitation to begin at 9:00 and mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter's the Apostle Church Building Fund at 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, Al 35216 or Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery at 916 Convent Road NE, Cullman, AL 35055.
