Mary Canterberry Spears

She was born in Elrod, AL to William (Bill) Delbert Canterberry and Hazel Daniel Canterberry on February 02, 1948.

Mary grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL and was a loving sister to her four brothers and three sisters. She remained close with each of her siblings and their spouses throughout her life. She spent forty wonderful years beside her loving husband, making memories and celebrating many joyous milestones. Mary was a loving mother to each of her children, welcoming Roy’s children as her own. She loved all of them deeply, and then shared that love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many Saturdays attending events of her grandchildren and took much pride in her role as “Nana.” Mary enjoyed spending time with her friends at Bunco, traveling to Tennessee for the Women of Joy Conference, and helping in the nursery at church.

Mary was a devout Christian and member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Tarrant, AL where she looked forward to attending her Sunday school class and worship service every week. She spent much time studying scripture and reading her Bible. Mary dedicated her adult life to the Lord Jesus Christ and ensuring that everyone she spoke with had the opportunity to know Jesus. She was very supportive of her husband in his pastoral ministry, serving as a constant encourager to him and others. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 121: 1-2.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bill & Hazel Canterberry; brothers, Bobby Canterberry and Harold Pearson. Mary is survived by her husband, Roy Spears; children, Terri Tucker (Jeremy), Sheri Barker (Derrick), Clint Spears (Kari), Christa Dransfield (Dave); fourteen grandchildren, Shane Nail (Brent), Tucker Stephenson, Ethan Tucker, Brayden Tucker, Ty Tucker, Taylor Barker (Alyssa), Ty Barker (Madeline), Hutton Spears, Kardyn Spears, Jaycee Dodd (Asa), Tanner Dill, Beth Dransfield, Connor Dransfield, Rosie Dransfield; and four great grandchildren. She leaves behind siblings, Glenn Canterberry, Delbert Canterberry, Jan Chaisson, Polly Sutphin, Jill Sanderson (Jim), Betty Sue Pearson, Geri Appeldorn (John), and Steve Spears, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mary will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. The family will receive friends at 11AM on Wednesday, September 9 with service to follow at 12PM. Burial service will be at Memory Hill Gardens, Tuscaloosa, AL at 2:30PM.

Bro. Ben Williams, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tucker Stephenson, Taylor Barker, Ty Barker, Tanner Dill, Hutton Spears, Brent Nail, Asa Dodd, & Tristan Nail.
