
Mary was born in Birmingham to Nora England and Luther Jackson on April 17, 1924. She passed away quietly in Hoover, Sunday, June 22, 2014. Mary is predeceased by her parents, her husband, W.T. St John Jr. and her five sisters: Ceil Carothers, Juanita Dower, Irene Posey Spatz, Edith Bonde, and Betty Jean Klinner. She is survived by her children, Cynthia St John and Alan St John, her grandchildren Keith St John (Teresa) and Sean St John, and her great grandchildren: Shane St John, Christina Peters, Ryan St John, and Lanette St John. Mary graduated Phillips High School in 1943. After she married W.T. in 1946, they moved to Germany, where W.T. worked for the American newspaper, Stars and Stripes. After also living in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Columbus, Georgia, and Orleans, France, they returned to Birmingham in 1966. Mary enjoyed her many friends and large family. She maintained her good friendships from her early school days in Birmingham, all the locations she lived around the world and new friends she made after returning to Birmingham. She is survived by many of her good friends and extended family. She was in touch with many of them until shortly before her death. They were always a great source of enjoyment and kindness for Mary. Thank you, to the kind employees of South Haven Rehab in Hoover, that took care of Mary in her last weeks. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 26th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Elmwood Chapel followed by a chapel service at noon.
