

Mary Elizabeth Lord Thompson, age 94, passed away at Southerland Place Assisted Living, Brentwood, TN on Monday, May 19, 2014. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Mrs. Thompson on Monday, May 26th. There will be visitation at 9:30 a.m. and a service at 10 a.m., at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Nashville, TN, with Dr. John Crawford of Southminster and Rev. Peter Van Eys of Crievewood United Methodist Church officiating. A graveside service for Mrs. Thompson will be Tuesday, May 27, 1 p.m., at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Trussville, AL.Mrs. Thompson was born on November 2, 1919 in Anniston, AL to Corrie Ward and Herman Griffith Lord, Sr. She married John B. Thompson, Jr., February 8, 1941. They were happily married for 54 years. After graduating from Woodlawn High School, she completed Business College and took a job with an insurance company. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to family and friends. Mary and John researched family genealogy for years, and Mrs. Thompson was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.She was a long-time, active member of East Lake Methodist Church in Birmingham, and joined Crievewood United Methodist Church when she relocated to Nashville after John's death to be near her daughter, Susan, and her family.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John B. Thompson, Jr.; her precious daughter, Beth Thompson Weyandt; her parents, Corrie and Herman Lord; her brothers, Herman Griffith Lord, Jr. and Oliver Edward Lord.She is survived by her daughters, Susan Christison and her husband Terry of Brentwood, TN, Minette Cranford and her husband Kenneth of Stafford, VA; son-in-law, Greg Weyandt and his wife Deborah; sister- in-law, Audrie Lord of Birmingham, AL; grandson, Mitchell Weyandt and his wife Alyssa of Birmingham, AL; granddaughter, Kelly Cranford of Palm City, FL; granddaughter, Deb Nicholson and her husband Frank of Stafford, VA; granddaughter, Amy Hargis and her husband Scott of Nolensville, TN; grandson, Nathan Christison of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Mary Beth and Charlie Weyandt of Birmingham, AL, Avrey and Sloan Dugger, and Ryanne Hargis of Nashville, TN, Zac, Joseph and Alissa Nicholson of Stafford, VA, Johnathan Williamson, Gavin, Reese, Madalyn, and Mallory Christison of Nashville, TN, and many treasured nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Kenneth Cranford, Terry Christison, Nathan Christison, Greg Weyandt, Mitchell Weyandt and Zac Nicholson.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church Child Care Center of Nashville, TN.A special thanks to the staff at Southerland Place for the excellent care, compassion and love extended to Mrs. Thompson during her residence there, and to the loving staff of Caris Hospice care.Ridouts Funeral Home of Trussville, AL will handle arrangements, (205) 655-2173.
