Mateo was born 3 months early (23 weeks of gestation) on February 20, 2026, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Though his time on earth was short, his life was filled with love, faith and countless prayers.
From the very beginning, Mateo showed the heart of a warrior. Doctors were not sure he would survive labor, yet he continued to fight and gave his family precious time filled with moments they will cherish forever. Through the prayers of so many, his family witnessed multiple miracles.
During his time in the NICU, Mateo allowed his family to see his sweet personality. His mother was able to hold him, care for him and even change his diapers. He quickly showed that he had a preferred sleeping side and he would stick his tiny tongue out just a little (just like his mom does when she is concentrating). His little nose looked just like Peyton's.
Mateo loved to kick his tiny arms and legs and he became known for occasionally trying to pull his tubes out. When his daddy, Androw, would read to him, Mateo sometimes covered his ears, something that always brought a little laughter during such hard days.
Even in his short life, Mateo’s story brought people together in prayer and reminded many of the power of prayer, faith, hope and love. His family will forever be grateful for the NICU doctors and nurses who cared for him so wonderfully and for the thousands of people who prayed faithfully for him and his parents.
Mateo is survived by his loving parents, Peyton and Androw Argote, who loved him deeply and cherished every moment they had with their son. He is also survived by his grandparents, great-grandparents, extended family and many friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Though Mateo’s life on earth was short, his impact was immeasurable. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now whole and with Jesus.
Mateo will always be remembered as a Little Mighty Warrior whose life reminded everyone around him that even the smallest lives can leave the greatest mark.
