

Melba Bray Hughes, a longtime resident of Birmingham and Hoover Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Melba was born in Lynnville, Tennessee on April 15,1917 and graduated from Robert B. Jones High School. She continued her studies in Birmingham where she met and married Bob Hughes. They enjoyed living in Birmingham where they raised their four daughters. Melba played the piano for her Sunday School class at Southside Baptist Church where she has been a member since 1953. She was an avid Auburn and Atlanta Braves fan. She is preceded in death by her parents: Judge McLemore Bray and Mary Florence

Melba is survived by daughters: Patricia Bolton (Sonny) of Jackson MS; Barbara Raney (Randy) of Huntsville, AI.: Jean Metcalf (Buddy) of Atlanta, Ga. and Debbie Bishop (Mike) of Birmingham, AI. Other survivors include grandchildren Laurie Koury, Leigh Tucker, Ben Bolton, Sandy Klaesius, Joe Wilson, Melissa Metcalf, Amy Clark, Natalie Morrow, Sarah Bishop, Jennifer Nix, Randy Raney Jr.and Jennifer Lavelle. Great grandchildren include: Hughes Koury, Bray Koury, Brittany Tucker, Shelby Tucker, Tatum Tucker, Rorie Bolton, Benjamin Bolton, Ann Lindsey Bolton, Maggie Klaesius, Charlie Klaesius, Bonnie Landers, Norah Clark, Jack Wilson, Logan Nix, Tucker Nix, Conner Raney, Wesley Raney, Connor Lavelle and Ellie Lavelle. Services for Ms. Hughes will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 with the visitation in Dillard Lobby of Southside Baptist Church from 12-1 p.m. with services beginning at 1 :00 p.m., Rev. Steve Jones is officiating and Marius Jordan is providing music. A private burial will follow the service.
