Born to a musical family, her life was a beautiful melody to all who knew and loved her. Her late parents, Roger Dale Isbell and Sara Nell Patrick Isbell, met at a church choir practice. Her father was a full-time salesman and a part-time minister of music, and her mother was a cheerful homemaker. On Sundays, young Melodi could often be found in the front pew holding up four fingers as a secret signal for her dad to choose “To God Be the Glory” as the closing hymn.
The Isbell home was abundant in love and the blessings of a close-knit family. Many of those fortunate to call Melodi a friend over the years felt they became a part of her family.
After graduating from Huffman High School in 1989, Melodi enrolled in Samford University, where she sang in the BSU choir. Upon her graduation, Melodi began a career of serving patients through her gift of administration. She worked in local dental and neurosurgery practices for nearly 30 years.
Throughout the years, Melodi poured her heart into choral and women’s ministries at Eastside Baptist Church and The Church at Brook Hills. She was also the reigning queen of garage sales, using the funds raised to serve through Impacto Ministry, taking many mission trips to Guatemala, a place where her heart truly sang.
An independent single woman for most of her life, Melodi met her husband, Daryl Wilson in 2021. They married in May 2022. Though their time together was brief, Melodi considered Daryl a precious gift.
Melodi will be remembered fondly for her radiant smile and generous hospitality. Every occasion was a cause to gather with good friends, good stories, and good food. She had a knack for making everyone feel special, and she was the hub of many intersecting friend groups whose lives were enriched by her good humor and deep faith in Christ.
Melodi’s husband and friends thank Visiting Angels as well as the doctors and nurses at Grandview Medical Center who took care of Melodi during her illness.
A celebration of Melodi’s life will be held Monday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel (1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235) with visitation preceding at 1:00 p.m. A brief graveside service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville following the funeral.
