
Michael Stanley Smith passed away April 1, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on September 18, 1949, he was a native and lifelong resident of Birmingham, Alabama.
Mike truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. His generosity knew no bounds as he lovingly gave his time and effort to help people all around him. Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a beautiful soul who made a profound impact on many lives.
Mike was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the rank Eagle Scout and was granted the Silver Eagle Award for his efforts as an adult leader. He also enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Mary’s on the Highlands Episcopal Church. Mike loved the outdoors, hiking and cycling. He spent much of his time in family activities such as building the family lake house on Lake Mitchell.
Mike graduated Banks High School in 1967. He continued his studies at Samford University where he obtained a degree in business in 1972. He married Joy (Holcomb) Smith on December 17, 1971. He was employed as a project manager by H&M Mechanical for many years.
Although Mike is gone, he will live in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, Joy; their children, Janey (Chris) Clark, Stacey (James) Irvin, Michael (Christina) Smith, and Sean (Mandi) Smith; grandchildren, Jacob and Kimberly Smith, Levi Irvin, and Peyton Smith; and brother, David Smith.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Smith and Carolyn Smith; and sister, Julie Joyner.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held 1pm Sunday May 18, 2025 at St. Mary’s on the Highlands Episcopal Church, Birmingham, AL.
