Mike Thomas Blevins, age 95, died peacefully Friday evening July 10. He is predeceased by Norma Autery Blevins, his beloved wife and "Lover Gal" of 69 years. A lifelong resident of Birmingham, Mike was born March 10, 1920 in Minor, the son of Eliza English Blevins and Mike S. Blevins. Mike was a graduate of Minor High School and Auburn University, College of Engineering and a life member of the Auburn Alumnae Association and Sigma Pi. He served in World War II as a naval aviator with Patrol Bombing Squadron 104 - The only Navy squadron to receive 2 Presidential Unit Citations. He flew 63 combat missions in the Pacific and was awarded 3 distinguished flying crosses and 8 air medals. He retired as a Lieutenant after 20 years in the US Naval Reserve. He is also a life member of the US Naval Institute, Association of Naval Aviation, US Navy Memorial - Plank Owner, Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, and Military Officers Association. Mike retired from US Steel with 36 years of service. He was a longtime member of Minor Methodist church and is a current member of Westmont Baptist Church. Mike was a 50-year member of the Zamora Shrine Temple, the Masonic Lodge and the Valley of Birmingham Scottish Rite. An avid boater, he is a past Commodore of the Birmingham Cruising Club. Mike was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his country. He loved Auburn and Auburn football and he had one final wish: Beat Bama! Mike is survived by two daughters: Carol Aldy (Joseph), Lexington, KY and Mickey Farmer (Bill), Birmingham; four grandsons: Joseph Aldy (Sarah), Belmont, MA, Michael Aldy (Ana), Los Angeles, CA, Troy Farmer (Karen), Auburn, AL, Kyle Farmer, Birmingham; four great-grandsons, a great granddaughter and his beloved dachshund Tubby. Visitation will Monday at 1:00 PM followed by the service at 2:00 PM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel.
