

Livingston, Minnie Lee Barker Minnie Lee Barker Livingston, born March 4, 1925, died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 10 at age 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank M. Barker, Sr. and Annie Lee Barker. Minnie Lee attended Mountain Brook Elementary School, Phillips High School for 3 years, and Ramsay High School for her senior year due to gas rationing during World War II. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She married Dr. Wiley Livingston, Sr. in April 1947 at South Highland Presbyterian Church. After their marriage she accompanied Dr. Livingston to Philadelphia while he completed his medical education at the University of Pennsylvania, and later at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. While living in Baltimore, Minnie Lee obtained her teaching certificate at Johns Hopkins and taught third, fourth and fifth grade at the same time in the same classroom. In the mid-1970's, she and Dr. Livingston served as short-term missionaries in Kano, Nigeria at the Eye Hospital of the Evangelical Churches of West Africa, where they worked in the eye clinic. Minnie Lee was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, the Linly Heflin Unit, the Music and Arts Club and the Gaieties Dance Club. She was a long-time member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, bible classes and the Ladies Circle. She also loved teaching girls’ neighborhood bible club. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Dr. Wiley K. Livingston, Sr.; her three sons: Dr. Wiley K. Livingston, Jr. (Grace), Dr. David B. Livingston (Blacksburg, VA), and John H. Livingston (Connie); six grandchildren: Will Livingston, Ariana Livingston, Briana Schoen (Abingdon, VA), Bryce Fitzgerald (Knoxville, TN), Mary Lee Livingston and Millie Livingston; her brother, Rev. Frank M. Barker, Jr. (Barbara), who will officiate at her funeral service, her sister-in-law, Margaret Gresham Livingston, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to thank and express their love to Betty Wilson, Shirley Parks, Gloria Motley, Kim Sherrod, Ashli Motley, Tiffany Percey, Regina Bester, Rosetta Swann, Adria Parks, Cassandra Lambert, TaShara Parks, Eluid Saina, Naomi Mugun and the staff of Gentiva Hospice their sweet, diligent care of Minnie Lee. Visitation will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday November 15 at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 2200 Briarwood Way, Birmingham, AL with the funeral service following at the church at noon.
