Nathan Lloyd Merritt, 35, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on April 28, 2026. Born on December 6, 1990 at Lyster Army Hospital in Fort Rucker, Alabama – a beautiful gift to parents Layne and Sandra Patricia (Patty) Merritt – Nathan grew up a military brat, living and traveling across the globe.
Nathan graduated from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Alabama in 2008. In 2012 he graduated from Birmingham Southern College, earning B.S. degrees in both Theatre and Economics. He was an active member of the Birmingham theatre community and felt happiest while singing and acting. He was passionate for music of all kinds – he had a captivating voice, played several instruments, and enjoyed attending live music events and concerts. Nathan was an avid reader and loved all things silly and unique – he was unapologetically free-spirited.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Layne Bradley and Sandra Patricia Merritt; brother, Angel Rodrigo Merritt (Kelly); sister, Nicole Marie Merritt (Zack); niece, Madison; nephews, Alex, Carson and Archie; grandnephew Isaiah, and his beloved pets, Jolene, Ghostface, Bruce and Tara.
Funeral services were held privately by his family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Nathan’s name to the Birmingham Festival Theatre where Nathan served as a board member, www.bftonline.org. The Encore Theatre and Gallery are dedicating their current show, 12 Angry Jurors to Nathan’s memory.
