.age 99, was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, by her precious Savior. She is now celebrating a joyous reunion with those that preceded her - her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, her husband George, her beloved son James, and her daughter-in-law Faye. She leaves behind her granddaughter Jamie Penny, her grandson-in-law Steve Penny, her cherished great-granddaughters Jessi and Katie, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors whom she dearly loved and prayed for daily. She was a true "Steel Magnolia" who survived the loss of both her parents when she was just a child, multiple wars, the Great Depression, breast cancer, and the most painful loss of all - the death of her only child. She loved sports, especially baseball and Alabama football. She was a wonderful cook and blessed many tummies with delicious pound cakes, chocolate pies, and good southern home cookin'. She also had a gift for letter writing. You could always count on a sweet card or letter on your birthday, holidays, and in between. We would like to thank all of the wonderful people at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home who took such loving care of her during her last months with us. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2011 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
