

Nellie L. Burns went to her eternal home on February 14, 2018 lovingly surrounded by family members. She was born to Otis and Alma Latham Sept. 6, 1930 in Cullman, AL. After graduation she moved to Birmingham, worked for GMAC, and met her husband of 55 years, The Honorable Robert (Bob) Burns. They made their home in Tarrant, AL where together they devotedly raised their family and served their community, Bob as mayor and Nellie as First Lady 1980-88 & 1996-2000. They were very active in their church, Tarrant Independent Methodist. Nellie, a joy and a blessing to others, was always ready to work a puzzle, play cards or win a game of dominos. She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Barry; sisters, Betty Self, Faye Taylor; and brothers, Alfred, Gerald and Bert Latham. She is survived by her children, Kathy (David) of Cahaba Heights and Mike (Pam) of Pinson; Grandchildren, Andy McMakin (Ashley) of Mountain Brook, Julie McMakin of Cahaba Heights, Joe (Anna) of Trussville, Zach (Taylor) of Pinson and Wyatt Burns of Pinson and sister: Judy (Homer) Marlowe of Locust Fork. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren of whom she was exceedingly proud Ryder, Jackson and Mally McMakin and Emma Burns. Friends are invited to celebrate her life on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with visitation from 10-11AM, the service at 11AM, followed by interment at Forest Hills Cemetery.
