

Nicholas Hartwell Holt, a food and beverage management expert raised in Hoover, AL, passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by friends and family at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA on November 19, 2015 at the age of 29. Nicholas is survived by his parents, Dr. Ira and Lynda Holt; his siblings, Courtney, Pearson, and Parker Holt, Ira Holt, Jr., and Kathy Antonello; and his girlfriend, Katherine Russo. Born in Bessemer, AL on April 29, 1986, Nicholas graduated from Spain Park High School in 2004 and went on to study Biology at the University of Montevallo. There he touched the lives of countless individuals with his brilliant sense of humor and ability to find a sliver of positivity in any and every situation. Nicholas was a devoted son, brother, and friend, as well as an avid chef. During his 5 years living in Washington, DC, he quickly made a name for himself working for Jose Andres, writing for Famous DC, and serving as a Kitchen Manager at Highline RXR. Nicholas radiated energy and drive in every position with an unmatched ability to recognize opportunity and to break down barriers that would impede most. Nicholas chased thrill through exploration, indoors and out. He embarked on adventures daily, making new friends everywhere he traveled and sharing his infectious love of life with all. Nicholas smiled vibrantly and loved people abundantly, forming instant, deep connections working his playful charm. He was a kind and generous soul who single-handedly converted half of DC into Alabama fans. With the support of his family, Nicholas made the noble decision to give the gift of life by becoming an organ donor. Nicholas will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on, along with his legacy to find the good in any situation. Friends and family will honor the life of Nicholas Holt on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL, 35211. The viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. with formal services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jim Savage will officiate. In lieu of flowers make donations to Riverchase United Methodist Church.
