

Nora Mae Ivy Nash a long time resident of Hoover, died Saturday, February 28, 2015. She was born in Birmingham on July 4, 1925, the third of five children and only daughter, of Charlie and Mae Ivy. She graduated from Ensley High School. After graduation she began work at the L&N Railroad Co., where she met her future husband, Horace S. Nash, Jr. In 1946 they married and celebrated 57 years of marriage just prior to his death in 2003. In 1962 she founded the Nora Nash Dance Studio. In 1985 the dance school was renamed the Birmingham Dance Theatre, which she co-owned as partner, with her daughter Joni Nash Scofield, until 2000, when she retired from the business. In 1980 she founded and began to operate Costume Creations, Inc., a wholesale and retail purveyor of costumes for dance and theatrical productions. Her daughter, Sandy Nash Coker assumed leadership of that business in 2002, and she retired from all leadership roles there in 2004. Nora was a very committed and caring person who had an extremely positive outlook about life, her faith and a deeply felt love for family and friends. She had four children, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews and 12 grandnieces and grandnephews. She was a positive and caring influence in the lives of thousands of students, and many business associates during their time in her employment. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mae Ivy, her husband Horace S. Nash, Jr. and her brothers, Ralph, Carl and James Ivy. She is survived by her children, Sandy Nash Coker (Don), Joni Nash Scofield (Al), Steve Nash (Eve) and Scott Nash; grandchildren Dale Coker, Lindsay Coker Corley (Courtney), Ally Scofield Packard (Adam), McCall Scofield, Katie Grace and Bay Nash; great grandchildren Sawyer and Wyatt Corley, and Nora Leigh Packard; brother Bob Ivy and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation will begin at 12PM and funeral services will follow at 1PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at St. Mark United Methodist Church on Columbiana Road in Vestavia Hills. Burial will follow afterwards at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama.
