Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard DeLeonard, her father Denward Davis Sr., her mother Elizabeth Ferguson and stepfather Louis Ferguson. She is survived by her three sons, Steve (Cary), Mark and David, brother Denward Davis, Jr; seven grandchildren Patrick, Michael, Steven, Anthony, Stephanie, Kelsey, Heather and three great-grandchildren Noah, Aiden and Charlie.
Norma was born of February 17, 1931 in Birmingham, AL, she attended Woodlawn High School. After high school, she worked at the Birmingham News for many years. She married Bernard on November 19, 1953 and they enjoyed 27 years together before his passing in 1980. During their marriage they enjoyed many good times with their friends, whether it be playing cards on Friday and Saturday night, going to the beach or going to the old Roma Country Club. She used to tell her boys “ya’ll don’t know what fun is, we had FUN”!
Norma always put her family first. She was a wonderful homemaker and worked tirelessly to make a warm and loving home. After working all day, she served a home cooked meal every night.
She loved family gatherings, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would spoil them endlessly. At a very young age Norma would go to the movies every Saturday, that love of movies carried on for the rest of her life. Being the good mother she was, she passed that love on to her children. But what she really loved was the University of Alabama football. Whether listening to the radio in the old days or watching on tv with her head down, she was front and center. If Alabama was losing, she would leave the room. She thought she was jinxing them. A cause she took up in her later years was the plight of under privileged and terminally ill children. She supported many organizations trying to right the terrible wrongs these children have endured.
She was a wonderful person and will be missed by the many who loved her.
