Oscar Strawn Rhetta, 88, went home to be with the Lord on November 26, 2022. Oscar graduated from Fairfield Industrial High School in 1952. He then went on to enlist in the U. S. Air Force where he retired after serving 20 years and achieving the rank of E7-Master SGT., during which time he received the Purple Heart. He also retired from the railroad and Metcalf.
He loved to help others and was a loving man. He was an avid San Francisco 49’s fan, but loved to watch NFL games.
Oscar is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Robbin Rhetta; daughter, Kimberly Everson; a host of grandchildren; brother, James Rhetta (Mary); sisters, Elizabeth Baldwin and Marilyn Hicks (Melvin); and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Compassus Hospice for their kindness and loving care during this time.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation at Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 10 am until 11 am. A graveside service will follow at Birmingham’s historic Elmwood Cemetery at the mausoleum at 11 am.
