Patricia Ann Duncan Criddle was born in 1952 in Birmingham, Alabama, to George W. Duncan and Betty Jo Duncan. A proud graduate of Woodlawn High School, she worked at Sizemore’s American Aluminum Products while raising her two children. Later, she lovingly stepped away from her career to care for her elderly parents and, eventually, her brother. In her later years, she worked at Walmart and Home Depot, where she received numerous awards and accolades before her retirement.
Ms. Pat was a strong woman with an even stronger faith in God. A devoted member of Life Church Birmingham, she served faithfully in many capacities and poured herself into the lives of others. She was also a faithful prayer warrior who never stopped lifting up her family, friends, and even strangers in prayer. She never met a stranger and was known for her bright, infectious smile, uplifting spirit, and the heartfelt cards she lovingly sent to family and friends. Whether in person, over the phone, or through a handwritten note, she had a special way of making people feel valued and cared for.
She was known for her wonderful Southern cooking, especially her famous homemade banana pudding. Though she tried her hand at painting and art classes, she eventually found her passion in ceramics, creating pieces that reflected her creativity and patience. She loved flowers and plants, even if she jokingly admitted she didn’t have much of a green thumb. Her signature Sweet Pea fragrance became one of the many things people would forever associate with her. And no one could wear a ball cap on a bad hair day quite as sweetly as Ms. Pat.
An avid Auburn football fan, she could often be found cheering on the Tigers and celebrating every victory with enthusiasm. She also had a gift for humming along to just about any tune, filling quiet moments with music and warmth. Her laughter, her humming, and her unwavering optimism made even ordinary days feel special.
Ms. Pat never really accepted the word “no.” No matter the obstacle, she always found a way and often reminded those she loved, “We’ll figure it out—we always do.” She was the keeper of magic during the holidays, making sure every detail was just right and every family tradition remained alive. Through her thoughtfulness and dedication, she created memories that will be treasured for generations.
While she accomplished many things throughout her life, her greatest joy was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world. She was their biggest fan, loudest cheerleader, and fiercest supporter, always celebrating their accomplishments and standing beside them through life’s challenges.
More than anything, Ms. Pat loved being surrounded by those she held dear. She was the heart of our family and a constant source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love.
Ms. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Duncan and Betty Jo Duncan; her brother, Michael Wayne Duncan; her granddaughter, Rory Isabella Hill; and her beloved dog, Killer, affectionately known as “Baby.”
She is survived by her daughter, Brandy Hill (Roy); her son, Joshua Criddle (Nikki); her grandchildren, Jordan Hill (Jessica), Taylor Freeman (Peyton), Brandon Hill (Savannah), Skyler Hill (Hayle), Joshua Hill, Trinity Hill, Dallen Criddle, and Jaylee Criddle; her great-grandchildren, Lexi Hill, Jace Hill, Breckynn-Jo Goodwin, Avery-Kate Freeman, Campbell Freeman, T Hill, and Charlotte Hill; her nephew, Michael Duncan (Ally); and many beloved family members, dear friends, and others whose lives were touched by her kindness, faith, and love.
Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we take comfort in knowing that Ms. Pat is whole again, reunited with loved ones who went before her, and resting in the presence of her Savior. The love she shared, the faith she lived, and the prayers she faithfully lifted for so many will remain with us forever. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the countless people who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever treasured until we meet again.
