Patricia M Shields

Patricia M. Shields went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2019. She was born February 19, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama to Ardys Orlando (“Pat”) Lavette and Annie Lee Lavette. She was a graduate of Ramsey High School and attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.

For many years she was an active realtor in Birmingham. She was also a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood of Des Moines, Iowa which supports Cottey College. Cottey College is an independent liberal arts and sciences college for women in Nevada, Missouri. She was a longtime member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert L. Shields Sr., her parents, Pat Lavette and Annie Lee Lavette, and her brother John H. Lavette.

She is survived by her sons Robert L. Shields III (Bonnie) of Birmingham, Alabama and John Michael Shields Sr. (Lynn) of Rancho Mirage, California, five grandchildren, John M. Shields Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, Patty Shields Sullivan (Alan) of Pasadena, California, Erin Shields Dawson (Erich) of Decatur, Georgia, Robyn Shields Herring (Bridges) and Rebecca Anne Shields of Birmingham, Alabama, five great-grandchildren, Evynne Herring, Elly Herring, Emersyn Herring, Ethan Dawson, and Eva Dawson, sister-in-law Mary Beth Lavette, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express its special appreciation and gratitude to Ruthelle Williams for fifty years of devoted service and friendship, and to others who helped care for her over the last two years.
