Paul W Hook, 66, of Hueytown, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Dorothea Hook. He leaves behind a loving family and many friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He is survived by his loving fiancée, Linda Thrasher; stepson, Brandon Thrasher (Misty); stepdaughters, Kristen Thrasher and Lauren George (Deven); granddaughters, Kollins and Millie; grandson, Brinson; cousins, David Hook (Pam), Jack Hook (Corky), Mark Hook (Ruth), and Kathy Robinson; and his chosen brother, Jim Hickey.
Paul worked with the City of Birmingham for five years, dedicated 22 years of his life to serving with the Birmingham Police Department, and later spent 15 years serving the Hueytown court system as a bailiff. Throughout his years in law enforcement, Paul formed many lasting friendships and built bonds that extended far beyond the workplace.
A special group of these friends became known as The Bama Trout Slammers. Together, they shared an annual fishing trip filled with laughter, friendship, and memories that Paul treasured deeply. Each trip brought new stories and special moments that would be remembered for years to come.
Paul was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he faithfully served for many years through Vacation Bible School (VBS). His dedication to his church and his willingness to serve others reflected the kind and giving person he was.
Paul was an amazing man; kind, gentle, loving, and giving. He had a heart for people and a special way of making those around him feel cared for and valued. His love for his family, his friendships, his church, and the many people whose lives he touched will remain a lasting part of his legacy. Paul will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the church on Friday, August 28, 2026, with visitation from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and the service beginning at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. Kyle Sullivan. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be members of The Bama Trout Slammers: Robert Cox, Phillip Russell, Charles Rafford, Bill Sorrell, Chris Rubinette, Albert Neny, Mike Roberson, Ed Leach, and Jeff Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Hickey, Don Parker, John Crane, Tracey Williams, Brent Sorrell, Rodney Pourzianas, and Christopher Parker. Also remembered in honor are deceased Bama Trout Slammers brothers, Mike Ashworth and Cliff Prosser.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Paul.
