Paul Edward Woods Sr.

Paul E. Woods Sr, age 86 died peacefully on Friday, April 10th, 2020. He was a graduate of Ensley High School. He proudly served 4 years in the Airforce as a B-47 aviation mechanic and married his sweetheart Julia “Polly” Cole. They were married nearly 50 years at the time of her death in 2003. He was a brave firefighter with the Birmingham Fire Department for over 30 years. He completed an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Jefferson State. He was Lieutenant of Station 12 at the time of his retirement in 1992. He continued to use his expertise at Standard Fire Equipment after his retirement. He became a fixture at the YMCA with exercise class and Silver Sneakers friends. You could often find him greeting members or sharing stories around the coffee. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Julia “Polly” Woods; his parents, Ollis and Louise Woods; and brother Wayne Woods. His survived by his daughter Terrie (Woods) Kurtts and son Paul E. Woods Jr, his sister Norma Jean (Woods) Aldridge, and loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the request of the family, the service will be private. Due to the concerns surrounding Covid-19, and in compliance with city and county ordinances, gatherings of 10 or more are prohibited and social distance is required.
