Pauline "Polly" J Clarke
June 2, 1929 – April 4, 2021
Polly was born on June 2nd, 1929 in Wadsworth AL, and died peacefully in her sleep in Montgomery AL at John Knox Manor on Easter Sunday morning April 4th, 2021. She is survived by her only child, Kathy C. Vincent (Paul); Adam and Kadie Vincent; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband James A. (Jim) Clarke, her parents, Wadsworth Winget Jackson and Bessie Daniels Jackson and her six brothers: Buck; Bill; James; Winget; Curt; and Tommy.
Polly Clarke earned a diploma in nursing at St. Margarets Hospital School of Nursing, a bachelors degree from Howard College (Samford University) and a masters from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
She served as a missionary nurse in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) prior to her marriage. She served again in Nigeria, working primarily at a home for orphaned children and hospital clinic compound serving those with Hansen’s Disease.
Polly worked as a visiting nurse, followed by a long career first as a hospice nurse and then as director of the Baptist Montclair program, the first Medicare certified hospice in Alabama. She was recognized for her work by the Alabama Hospice Organization.
Her church family at Mountain Brook Baptist Church was very special to her. She loved being part of that fellowship, serving as a deacon there.
She was a wise, kind, joyful woman blessed with many friends.
