
SHORT, PAULINE VARNELL Pauline Varnell Short, of Atlanta, GA., age 94, went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2010. Pauline was born on November 3, 1915, in Hollywood, AL., the daughter of the late Pearl Isbell Varnell and Rev. Anderson Varnell of Scottsboro, AL. She studied business at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and her career included years with the Federal Service in Birmingham and Huntsville, AL., the Department of Defense, Coastguard, Washington, DC., and many devoted years to her family as Homemaker. Pauline was active in her church and taught several Sunday School classes. In the later years of her life she was a member of Huffman Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL., and LaGrange Baptist Church on the Square, LaGrange, GA. Her passions included serving God, her family, helping others, and involvement with her church. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Wardlaw, of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Chris Bennett of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, Jenna Wardlaw Hix, Madelyn, Jocelyn, and Juliana Wardlaw of Sparta, TN; nieces, Margaret Anderson of Flat Rock, AL., Betty Boren of Trenton, GA., Gay Nell Parsons of Marion, AL., Ira Sue Walton of Birmingham, AL., and Annette Short of NY, NY.; a nephew, Walter McCormack of Dora, AL.; as well as great neices, great nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Short was preceeded in death by her mother, Pearl Isbell Varnell, and father, Rev. Anderson Varnell, originally of Scottsboro, AL.; her husband, Joseph Edward Short, Sr., of Lagrange, GA.; her son, Joseph Edward Short, Jr., of Lagrange, GA.; her sister Ida Varnell Howard, of Jackson Country,AL.; and her brother and sister in law, Francis Lyles Varnell and Jesse Nelson Varnell, of Scottsboro, AL. Visitation will be at Ridout's Trussville Chapel Friday, September 17, 2010 at 1:00 with services at 2:00. Burial immediately following at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, AL. Memorial to be conducted by Mrs. Short's great nephew, Rev. John Anderson, Jr.
